I wonder how jelly changes.....

Last week Lulu had a wonder about jelly....she thought something looked just like jelly. So....we thought we would FIND OUT a bit more about jelly and see how it changes and what makes it change.

We found out that.....jelly starts like sugar, then it DISSOLVES and changes to liquid once you add warm water and then it turns to WOBBLY JELLY after it had been in the fridge all day.

So what made the changes happen......warm water and the cold from the fridge. We realised this because we put one in the cupboard and left one on the table and they both stayed runny.

Great ideas and sharing everyone...we are so good after finding out about the world around us!

Making ONE HUNDRED AND MORE

In class, during maths, we are learning about BIG numbers. We have been making sets of 10. Lots of learning is happening here. We are thinking about groups of, counting in 10s, place value and writing big numbers like 319. We have also been focusing on using our skip counting to count on.

Mice in the Kitchen by Jill Eggleton

Over this week we have been reading the big book Mice in the Kitchen. The children have really got into character and have been exploring the use of different voices.

So, to end the week we had a bit of fun creating our own mice that we could then eat! The children followed instructions well, took turns and showed a great deal of patience to create their own edible mouse.

DAFFODILS.....DAFFODILS AND MORE DAFFODILS!

On Tuesday we went to the Taniwha Daffodil Farm along with 220 other junior children. The weather was stunning. We were so excited. It was hard to contain our excitement while we were on the bus! We got to pick 20 daffodils each to take home. While we were there we were able to look at lots of different things that "change". We saw the daffodils of course and also a blossom tree. We noticed big swans there and we talked about how they have changed from little swans to big swans.
It was a great day enjoyed by all! Thank you parents for sharing this day with us!

READING in ROOM 16

Have a look at us reading. Everyday we are learning new skills to help us become independent readers. Today we are remembering to point to the words while we read. We are also searching for the words we know and to use our letter sound knowledge to work through words we don't know.

Snazzy Shapes!

We are learning about 2D and 3D shapes. We are learning to create shapes and to then talk about how many sides and corners a shape has.
We have used sticks on the mat to create shapes. We then used tooth pick sticks and blue tack to create shapes. The blue tack helped us to manipulate our shapes and it really helped us to think about the number of sides a shape has.
